Guidelines Live is a unique two-day event focused on clinical guidance for primary care. This year the event will include coverage of relevant NICE rapid COVID-19 guidelines, and our speakers will be explaining the implications of COVID-19 on their particular clinical topic. Speakers will also be considering how best to implement guidelines via remote consultation.

At this stage we are still planning to hold the live event at Olympia, London on 17–18 November 2020. Olympia London are working with event partners in line with Government guidance to ensure measures are in place to reduce the spread of coronavirus at live events. The Guidelines Live team is also planning to deliver the event by digital means if necessary, so no matter what, you will still be able to access and complete your guidance-related learning.

What to expect from Guidelines Live 2020

We are working hard to bring you 2 days packed with informative and practical sessions about the latest clinical guidance. Sessions will cover a range of COVID and non‑COVID topics—after all, care must continue for all patients throughout the pandemic. Our speakers will also be providing advice about implementing guidance alongside the new ways of working that have been adopted during the pandemic. With 12 clinical streams across 2 days, delegates have the opportunity to earn up to 12 CPD hours, with certificates provided.

Some of the highlights of the 2020 event are described below.

Implications of COVID-19 on patient care

Running throughout the conference, each speaker will be examining the implications of COVID-19 on their particular clinical topic.

Implementing guidance remotely

Take this unique opportunity to safeguard your practice, by learning from experts about following guidelines while conducting patient consultations remotely.

Cardiovascular streams on both days

Based on your feedback, this year’s event includes two streams covering a broad range of topics in this popular clinical area. Expert speakers will be delivering sessions on what has changed in cardiovascular disease since COVID-19 as well as discussing the new NICE guideline on venous thromboembolic diseases.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Attend a session in this stream to learn about managing COPD in the COVID-19 era. There will also be a session on the diagnosis of COPD, which will compare and contrast recommendations from the Global Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) strategy and the NICE COPD guideline.

Diabetes

Dr Kevin Fernando will explore managing type 2 diabetes in the COVID-19 and post-COVID era, giving cardiometabolic and renal considerations. This stream will also include a session on dietary management of type 2 diabetes.

Asthma

This stream will include a popular working party guideline on inhaler choice; our expert speaker will explain factors to consider when selecting an inhaler device, and how to engage the patient when assessing inhaler technique.

Gastroenterology

Dr Kevin Barrett returns to chair this popular stream, he will also present a session on the NICE and Primary Care Society for Gastroenterology guidelines on irritable bowel syndrome.

Liver (new for 2020)

This new stream will look at liver conditions in the COVID-19 era, with reference to the NICE COVID-19 rapid guidelines. Liver blood tests and the early detection of liver disease will also be covered.
