This CPD activity consists of 5 multiple-choice questions designed to test your knowledge on asthma–chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) overlap syndrome—you will then be prompted to reflect on your learning.
The questions, written by Professor David Halpin, relate to his expert article, Clinical features should be used to assess asthma–COPD overlap, which covers the 2016 update to the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease’s (GOLD) strategy report and a stepwise approach to diagnosing patients who may have COPD, asthma, or both.
On completion of this activity, you should be able to:
- describe a multidimensional assessment of COPD
- explain how assessments of symptoms and risk of exacerbations are used to guide pharmacotherapy
- differentiate between symptoms of asthma and COPD
- explain what treatments are most appropriate.
