  • how Guidelines Live aims to support clinicians with appraisal and revalidation.

What is Guidelines Live?

Guidelines Live is the largest UK event focusing on clinical guidelines, and is aimed at healthcare professionals managing patients in primary care: GPs, nurses, and pharmacists. By bringing together specialists and generalists we facilitate discussions about how new guidance will change clinical practice.

Now in its third year, Guidelines Live will be a 2-day event on Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 November 2019 at Olympia London. This year’s event will have multiple streams on each day, meaning that we will be covering a wider range of clinical topics than ever before.

What makes Guidelines Live a must-attend event?

Keeping up to date with new guidelines is a key element in ensuring that patients receive the best possible healthcare at all times, and by following evidence-based pathways you safeguard your practice.

Attending Guidelines Live will help you to keep up to date with new guidance and provide you with the opportunity to:

  • question experts and peers about new guidance
  • network with colleagues to discuss local challenges and explore workable solutions
  • build an understanding of how new guidance will change your clinical practice
  • identify actions to support your team in delivering best practice.

Why did MGP decide to hold a live event?

Following feedback from our readers, MGP developed Guidelines Live to meet an unmet need for live events that help those managing patients in primary care keep up to date on new and updated clinical guidance. Guidelines Live is built on our expertise in providing information on clinical guidelines, and we felt that a live event was a natural extension to our offerings.

What topics will be covered?

The agenda has been developed to reflect a typical day in general practice, covering the range of patient conditions that come through the door. There will be 12 streams in total with three sessions in each stream. We are still working on the final details but a provisional agenda is now available (see Table 1).

The Guidelines Live agenda has been informed by feedback and input from:

  • delegates who attended the 2017 and 2018 events
  • previous speakers and session Chairs
  • healthcare professionals who regularly use or provide content for our publications.

How will the event support clinicians with appraisal and revalidation?

Over the 2 days at Guidelines Live you will spend around 12 hours learning, which equates to 12 CPD credits. After the event you will receive a personalised CPD certificate that will include details of the streams you attended so you can demonstrate your learning in those areas.

Our event guide will include several copies of a reflective template so that you can make notes and reflect on your learning in the sessions, and document how it will change your clinical practice.

After the event, slide sets from the independent sessions will be available to all delegates. This will give you the opportunity to extend your learning by reviewing the content from sessions you did not attend over the 2 days.

How do people register to attend?

You can book your place at Guidelines Live 2019 online at: www.guidelines.co.uk/live19

Thanks to sponsorship from the pharmaceutical industry we have a limited number of educational bursaries (worth £300+VAT) available for UK-registered healthcare professionals working within the NHS in the following roles: GPs, nurses, pharmacists, and those with an interest in the development and implementation of primary and shared care guidelines. An administrative charge of up to £40+VAT is payable at booking, which includes:

  • a lunch voucher for each day booked
  • a copy of the Guidelines handbook
  • access to Guidelines Live digital resources.

What is the best bit about organising Guidelines Live?

The best bit is the audience reaction: it is always great to hear the buzz around the event—seeing delegates discussing issues with speakers and colleagues at the end of a session or during breaks and how, armed with new information, they plan to support their patients. Seeing a delegate leaving the event visibly energised and determined to put their learnings into clinical practice straight away makes it all worthwhile.

The feedback we receive directly from speakers and delegates is very rewarding and reinforces the message from our audience that they really appreciate the practical aspects of Guidelines Live. Some of the comments we have received from delegates who attended previous events are in Box 1.
