Guidelines Checklist

I read with interest the Q&A in Guidelines in Practice (July 2000,Vol 3) asking about a definitive list of guidelines. I was disappointed that the answer did not include 'contact your local health librarian', as library and information professionals produce lists for a living!

I enclose a handout (see below) that I often give people who ask about guidelines, and would be interested to hear what you think of its usefulness.

The principle behind this checklist is that your approach to searching for guidelines should:

begin with evidence-based/clinically effective guidelines
before doing/requesting primary searches on MEDLINE, CINAHL etc.
